SMART Plastics I: Minimizing Handwork
while Producing Plastic Parts
; James Swanson, Stiles Machinery
Attend this SMART session for an introduction to the latest
plastics processing technologies in reducing manual work
for producing high-quality parts. James leads attendees
through the latest in plastics manufacturing technology
and addresses a number of key acrylic manufacturing
processes including diverse cutting solutions for engrav-
ing, profiling and the polishing of curved geometries on a
nested-based router. Attendees learn best practices and
machine features for efficiently machining and sawing
both acrylic and other plastic sheet stock. James will
also discuss and demonstrate tooling solutions available
for utilizing CNC router technology to size and polish
non-rectilinear geometries. This session is part 1 of a two-
part series on plastics manufacturing for woodworking

Dust Collection And Combustible Dust
for Secondary Wood Operations:
Fundamentals and Safety
; Jamison Scott, Air Handling Systems
; Robert Williamson, Nederman
This session combines basic dust collection fundamentals with information on combustible dust for medium to
large woodworking plants. Participants will learn about
basic design and guidelines to assist in the specification, installation, operation and maintenance of an
effective, efficient and safe dust collection system. With
OSHA’s use of NFPA 664 standards to determine if a
workplace is safe, the future will require the use of high
