Customization was also key in Robert
Burkle’s showcase, which included a
roll coating process for formed, non-flat furniture parts with four paintable
sides and tapered ends. For Industry 4.0,
Mechatronics 2022 creates a digital twin
of a real system to enable virtual startup
procedures and real-time simulation.
Makor also targeted Industry 4.0.
On display were smart workpieces
with RFID chips that configured the
coating operation, and automated and
robotic paint systems for rapid color
changes with reduced paint wastage.
Venjakob also displayed a spray
coating machine which utilized RFID
tags to set up the machine parameters,
as well as the VEN PROFIT data analysis tool, which utilizes tapio software.
Innovations at Interzum
An estimated 74,000 woodworkers from
152 countries were in force at Interzum,
to view the latest in hardware, surfaces
and other supplies by 1,805 exhibitors.
Spread across more than 2 million
square feet, the event took place May
21-24 in Cologne, Germany and was
organized by Koelnmesse. The next
show will be held May 4-7, 2021.
“We significantly exceeded our goal
of topping the 70,000-visitor mark,”
said Gerald Böse, president and CEO of
Koelnmesse. “[The] industry demon-
strated its immense capacity for innova-
A major focus of the show was on
the design of future living spaces, with
special event areas and workshops on
disruptive materials, surface design,
digital printing, smart systems, mobile
living spaces and new technologies.
Standout themes were the continuing
rise of individualization, energy ef-
ficiency and sustainability, light (LED),
digitalization (including voice control),
micro living and “slide and hide.”
Many products for cabinets, closets
and furniture were featured, including
these Interzum award-winning items:
From Salice, the Excessories collec-
tion includes an individually configu-
rable aluminum drawer system which
can be matched to a wardrobe using
front panels made from wood or glass.
Valinge’s Three-Spine is a patented
click-together furniture assembly system. By combining the profiles with a
locking element, it creates a stable connection between panels as thin as 6mm.
The new ViZard by Ambigence flap
fitting door hardware, available from
Hettich, enables the door to completely disappear/integrate into the
furniture side panel.
From Vibo SpA, the Fly-Box corner
cabinet solution features two compart-
ments. The guide rail positions the rear
box to automatically fold out, allowing
both compartments to be extended fully.
Another award winner, Kristall Metallic is a high-gloss, seamless glass front
design door on a composite wood core.
The metallic pigments create light shimmers and reflections, noted Niemann.
From Out for Space GmbH, Karuun
Shine is extracted from rattan palm to
create a translucent, material permeable to air, while offering sound
absorption; it can also be moulded.
Aerowood is a lightweight board
made of wooden wave veneer, from
Sperrholzwerk Schweitzer. The “
aerowood light,” version has the corrugated
structure distributed throughout; “
aerowood compact” is used for construction.
PerfectSense lacquered boards from
Fritz Egger GmbH feature a matte
marble look and the new duo edges.
The boards are available in a light or a
dark marble reproduction.
Homapal Aquaris is a quick-to-install
panel suitable for wet rooms. It consists
of a closed-cell polyurethane foam with
double sided HPL coating. ✚
