will be proud of the work they’ve done and motivated to see it
implemented correctly. Teaching is also one of the best ways
to reinforce knowledge. Give them the go ahead to do it.
Lastly, this is a great chance for you to record their teaching.
This recording is a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
Now you have a refined process, an employee who is leading the
implementation of the process, and a documented SOP.
You can affect how much your products and your shop are
actually worth and create an A-team efficiently by following
through on the above steps. You don’t need a ton of time to try
this out in one section of the shop. And don’t be afraid to let
go of the reins. Engaging with your employees isn’t just a way to
add tremendous value to your products and your shop, it can
also be extremely rewarding for all.

5 steps to hiring better employees
1. Start with the advertisement. It should highlight
the company’s strong suits and be specific about job qualifications and expectations.
2. Have an online application form. This form should also
export to a Google spreadsheet for multiple reasons.
3: Narrow your focus to two or three applications you like
and then bring in your foreman to get another pair of eyes.
4: Have working interviews. Ours are up to three days. The
candidate receives a peer review and/or evaluation, conducted by myself, the foreman, and potentially another worker.
5. If your peers and employees decide that the person will
be a good fit then it’s time to make the hire! During the probation period, make sure they fit in with company culture.
